BCLC has an immediate opening to a General Counsel and Director, Information Management to strengthen its team. The General Counsel, who reports to the Vice President, Legal, Compliance, Security, will lead BCLC`s strategic and operational legal initiatives. The role will provide effective advice on a wide range of legal issues, including but not limited to commercial contracts, regulatory compliance, governance, employment, money laundering and litigation. The General Counsel will structure and lead BCLC`s legal department, lead new approaches and processes to improve legal and business practices, involve and oversee the work of external consultants, and provide legal and business recommendations to achieve the company`s objectives while mitigating and/or eliminating legal risks. Additional experience in handling disputes, employment or freedom of information would also be considered an advantage. The role can be located at BCLC`s offices in Vancouver or Kamloops. Blanchard Community Law Clinic provides legal services to low-income individuals throughout the state of North Carolina and has served more than 1,200 clients since it opened in 2016. According to Leonard, 136 law students have been trained at the clinic in the past five years. In May, the Raleigh City Council voted to give the law school $100,000 a year from the American Rescue Plan Act for three years. With this funding, the clinic established the City of Raleigh`s Housing Justice Project, which provides advice and guidance, as well as legal representation, to eligible Raleigh residents facing eviction. As a successful candidate, you have more than eight years of entrepreneurial professional experience, including at least five years in a management position. You must have a pragmatic and business-oriented approach to solving legal problems, a good reputation as a human resources leader, and a proven ability to effectively communicate legal advice to a wide range of stakeholders.
