The Paralegal Certificate is available to individuals who wish to study part-time and who are already working full-time in the legal field as an LAA or paralegal. Students mainly take courses in substantive law and legal skills, while acquiring their procedural skills in the workplace. Degree Requirements: Students must complete all courses in the program of study (the five required courses and 15 elective course credits) and achieve a cumulative GPA of 3.0 (B) or higher to earn a degree. Students who meet the course requirements without being admitted to the certificate option (e.g., by taking courses in the degree or diploma option or transferring credits from other institutions) and who do not have at least two years of legal work experience are not eligible for automatic graduation. In these circumstances, students must complete at least two years of relevant full-time work experience in consultation with the chairholder(s) before being eligible for graduation. Starting in fall 2022, course offerings for the evening option of the Paralegal Certificate Program will be offered synchronously online. Classes are held online once a week from 17:30 to 20:20. All potential applicants living in Metro Vancouver (south of Squamish/west of Abbotsford) must apply for the evening option.
