Legal Counsel Line of Duty

“Game of Thrones” writer George R. R. Martin wanted “House of the Dragon” to have a very different opening in the timeline “much earlier.” Now, after weeks of flatly ignoring mandatory drug testing, he has five days to report to human resources — or risk receiving a yellow notification and being suspended from his duties. Denton was found not guilty, and Biggeloe was the legal representative present when Hastings and Denton had to hold a meeting of the truth and reconciliation process. After that, Biggeloe told him to suspend Arnott for wrongdoing. They then went out on a date and were seen kissing, but Hastings broke up again. But this season, Steve discovered the (literal) money in the attic during a not-so-legal search of their home after spending the night getting closer to his late colleague`s wife. Although the immediate case against AC-12`s gaffer, Ted Hastings (Adrian Dunbar), has been dropped — with legal counsel Gill Biggeloe (Polly Walker) exposed as one of the Corrupt Four who had worked to slander Ted — a full episode left many threads hanging out. AC-12`s legal counsel made a surprise return to the show after his first appearance in season three She later accompanied Hastings to a meeting with Arnott, where she told him that a Notice of Rule 15 was to be served on him and suspended from duty, and asked if he was still carrying a gun. Arnott insisted that DI Matthew Cottan be brought to the meeting, and despite his objections, Hastings allowed it.

When the argument flares up, she ends the meeting. Hastings later asked her if she would support an AC-12 investigation into former Chief Superintendent Patrick Fairbank, accused of committing and covering up sex crimes in Sands View in the 1990s. She assures him that she would, but suggests that he should instead send the Fairbank files to the largest national investigations into historical sexual abuse: Operation Yewtree and Operation Midland. As an experienced Schmoozerin, she was appointed Senior Legal Advisor to the new Police Commissioner and Central Police Criminal Commissioner, Rohan Sindwhani (Ace Bhatti). Once again, Biggeloe turned out to be a political actor – sometimes he seemed to be helping AC-12, sometimes he blocked their investigations and prepared them for a fall. Superintendent Ted Hastings agrees to send DC Kate Fleming undercover as a new member of Waldron`s team to uncover the truth. Waldron`s team is tense because they have been pressured to cooperate with Waldron, and Fleming identifies PC Harinderpal “Hari” Bains as the weakest link, but Bains refuses to testify against Waldron. Under pressure from Gill Biggeloe, the AC-12 division`s lawyer, Waldron`s team was returned to active service. On their first call, they are tasked with robbing a drug dealer`s apartment. Waldron pockets an illegal gun and stops Fleming from accidentally shooting a child left in the house just in time. Waldron demanded that Fleming be released from his team.

At one point in the 90-minute finale, it seemed that the highly polite senior counsel (played by Polly Walker) would be exposed as the OCG`s chief honcho, especially since she had her “urgent exit needed” text ready on her burner – presumably for her to get a Matthew “Dot” Cottan escape. After Superintendent Ted Hastings Sgt. revokes Danny Waldron`s gun license and begins investigating the fact that he shot Ronan Murphy, he is received by Gill in his AC-12 building office with DI Matthew Cottan and DS Steve Arnott. Gill informs them that the Police Federation is protesting their treatment of Waldron and states that their lawyers argue that he should be reinstated in active duty with Strategic Firearms Command unless they can demonstrate a reasonable suspicion of crime or wrongdoing and endangering the public trust. Despite Steve Arnott`s arguments, she states that there can be no breach of public trust due to a legal repressive order related to Operation Damson, in which Murphy was killed. She also maintains that he had reasonably plausible answers to all the allegations and that his team (PC Hari Bains, PC Jackie Brickford and PC Rod Kennedy) also supports him in their statements. Gill was first introduced as legal counsel assigned to AC-12 by the acting police and the Criminal Superintendent to ensure that their investigations into corrupt Central Police officers were not “torn up in court” as a result of DI Lindsay Denton`s investigations in the previous series. She first clashed with Hastings, then tried to seduce him. When he refused, she gave him a confidential file on suspect Ronan Murphy, which later turned out to be faked.

Asked about unethical acts in her work, she said she would not resign because she did not want the public to lose confidence in the CCP. Senior Legal Counsel Gill Biggeloe (like Jimmy Lakewell, counsel from the fourth round), was a former criminal defense attorney whose association with the OCG likely began when she represented one of them in court years earlier. She worked for the central police and accepted bribes from the OCG to move things in her direction – she redacted evidence and used her legal acumen to disrupt investigations into her criminal activities and protect corrupt officials in her salary. Later that night, she confronts Hastings and D.C. Kate Fleming to find out why Arnott has not yet been charged, after which she is told they will re-examine the evidence. She acknowledges that it is difficult to accuse any of them, but notes that there is sufficient evidence of motive, expediency and means. However, she is tipped off by Fleming and questioned about the Ronan Murphy file she provided to Hastings. When she refused to answer, Fleming presented a written power of attorney from Superintendent Madeline Summers of East Midlands Constabulary AC-3 stating that she had investigated AC-12 and had received information that the file was originally in the possession of Major Violent Crime`s DS Nicola Rogerson and that it had been requested by DI Matthew Cottan. Gill admits that it was from Cottan that she received the file, but did not know that he had manipulated her before providing it to her.
