SALI Alliance is all-inclusive for enterprises, customers, organizations and providers of industrial technologies and services. SALI was created to ensure that all industry stakeholders have a voice to shape the most useful and relevant standards to promote transparency. The Legal Marketing Association (LMA) and the Association of Legal Administrators (ALA) are the two founding organizations of the SALI Alliance, and the founding board is composed of Toby Brown; Oliver P. Yandle, JD, CAE; and Betsi Roach, MIM, CAE. As more and more players use the same SALI tags, interoperability is now possible. In the past, people counted the same element (e.g. banking law), but interoperability required mapping of all domains between each of the thousands of players in the legal ecosystem. It takes time and is expensive. ALA has partnered with the Legal Marketing Association (LMA) to form the SALI Alliance (Standards Advancement for the Legal Industry). It complements ALA UPBMS and focuses on developing new standards to meet the needs of buyers (customers) and more demanding service providers. The objective is to develop uniform definitions of the types of lawyers` work (dispute resolution, transactional services, etc.). SALI Alliance is initially developing a standard to describe legal issues to encourage innovation and ensure consistency for buyers and sellers of legal services.
Rafael Banchs, senior data scientist at Intapp, discussed the company`s progress in using AI to categorize scorecard narratives into phases and tasks. According to Banchs, the classification of a single-season map with AI at this point is only about 70-75% (human classification is 75-80% accurate), although the classification by phase and task is much more accurate when aggregating time map data over the lifetime of a material. Tagging enables advanced and powerful analytics. Once you`ve tagged questions, documents, or time tracking with standardized SALI codes, these tags can provide analytical information. Would you like to help shape the SALI legal data standard? Please visit SALI.org or email info@sali.org. For example, after filling out a file with SALI tags, you can get an overview of issues such as “Show me all our patent litigation where we represented IT and high-tech clients who were defendants.” The following figure shows the markup value with SALI tags. What started as an idea at ILTACON a few years ago has now grown into a formal non-profit organization dedicated to achieving practical standards for coding issues, time entries, and documents: The SALI Alliance. Hear directly from the founders of the SALI movement explain how it started, where it stands today, as well as practical steps and guidance on how to implement SALI standards in your business. – Watch the session (access required) The Standards Advancement for the Legal Industry (SALI) Alliance is pleased to announce the official release of the Legal Matter Specification Standard (LMSS) 2.0. This significantly expanded new version of the LMSS marks an important milestone for the industry just over two years after the well-received launch of LMSS 1.0.
The taxonomy has grown more than sixfold to nearly 10,000 categories (mostly tags) that the legal market uses to describe its services in detail and in a comparable way across organizations. These ~10,000 tags can promote legal pricing, AI, and data science initiatives. Matter Standard Version 1 Release provides a foundation to increase efficiency and enable change in the legal industry – read more Because SALI is a legal data standard that is increasingly being adopted by the largest players in the legal industry, it enables interoperability across the entire legal ecosystem. Just as the financial sector has ISO and FIBO that allow banks and financial institutions to transfer money and data between organizations, the legal sector now has SALI that allows customers, suppliers and suppliers to transfer data between organizations. So, with SALI`s 10,000 tags, companies can cover both high-level tagging (e.g., questions) and granular tagging (e.g., documents with “legal proposals” that include “breach of contract” and “borrower”). Do you need to profile up-to-date system data to get useful information? When you implement workflows, decision support systems, or machine learning systems, you need to tag or profile your information. LMSS code sets can be used as metadata. The code sets cover more than a dozen aspects of legal issues. SALI solves this problem: as standard, it can offer interoperability. Since everyone uses the same SALI tag for banking law, all parties involved (e.g.
company X, customer Y, provider 1, provider 87) can exchange data with each other. The SALI API Working Group is currently developing the SALI API language. If you would like to participate in this work, please let us know. For more information or to access the standard, please contact info@sali.org. The standard is designed to support both current and future advanced systems. You can use parts of the LMSS, the unchanged LMSS, or you can extend it to meet the needs of your organization. The release of LMSS 2.0 follows growing momentum and interest in the standard from parts of the legal industry ecosystem, including law firms, service providers, educational institutions and in-house teams. The benchmark implementations reflect the diversity of interests, from the law firm Goulston & Storrs PC to the Attorneys` Liability Assurance Society (ALAS) to technology firm subsidiaries Fastcase, NextChapter and Docket Alarm.
Vendors provide applications (e.g., analytics, billing, search, eDiscovery, legal project management) that are supported by SAL. The standard`s 10,000 beacons form the basis of many of the industry`s most advanced AI and data analytics projects.
